"Who, as second officer of the M.S. "Ondina", which on November 11, 1942, in the Indian Ocean, although equipped with only a light-caliber gun, together with the accompanying minesweeper of the Royal British Indian Navy, engaged two overwhelmingly armed Japanese privateers, displayed great courage and excellent management in the execution of his task under perilous circumstances. After returning aboard the tanker, which had initially been abandoned and was apparently sinking, he descended into the engine room in order to restart the engines and trim the ship, partly as a result of which the ship, albeit badly damaged, was brought safely into an Australian port."
The BK with EV was later replaced by the MWO.4.
