    Biography

    He enlisted on 21st April 1942 at March field, California. Reed served as a heavy truck driver. On 29th April 1943 he left for Europe where he arrived on 10th May. After the ending of World War two Reed left for ths United States on 6th September 1945, arriving there on 14th September. On 26th September 1945, Larking Reed was honorably discharged. He served in the 456th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division and made the combat jump into Sicily with the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, participating in the first ever night-time combat drop by the U.S. military. After this he transferred to Battery A, 319th Glider Field Artillery Battalion on September 4th, 1943. He later transferred tot Battery C, 463rd Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, 101st Airborne Division and after Southern France, Bastogne on to Battery B, 681st Field Artillery Battalion, 17th Airborne Division. Besides his peronal decorations he was entitled to wear the Distinguished Unit citation. During the Korea War he served with Company A, 34th Engineer Combat Battalion.
