Casamino Joseph Polizzi, was born in Borgetto, Palermo, Sicily on March 12th, 1921. He emigrated to the United States on June 24th, 1929 at the age of 8 years. He graduated from PS 76 in Manhattan in June 1937. The family were nationalized to U.S. citizens prios to the Second World War.
Casamino enlisted in the US Army on July 20th, 1943 and became a member of Company A, 85th Infantry, 10th Mountain Division as a ski trooper. He was severely wounded on February 20th, 1945 during the engagement on Mount Belvedere in Italy. He was hit by an enemy shell fragment striking him in the right flank, losing his right kidney and it was assumed by the doctors that the shrapnel was lodged in his liver. After several surgeries and seven months of rehabilitation, he received an honorable discharge on September 19th, 1945.

He got married on October 5th, 1948. The couple had five children between the years 1949 to 1958. He spent much of the rest of his life in the VA Hospital in Manhattan and finally succumbed to uremic poisoning and died on September 11th, 1965. The doctors who treated him said it was a direct result of the wounds he received in battle on February 20th, 1945.
