    Biography

    Raymond Oakes, wireless operator, commenced his operational flying with a raid on Dortmund on 4 May 1943. Subsequent targets included Duisberg, Dusseldorf, Essen, Wuppertal, Bochum, Oberhausen, Krefeld, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne, Milan, Nuremberg, Gladbach, Berlin, Kassel, Frankfurt, and Leipzig - many of these targets more than once. He completed his tour on 9 Nov 1943 and thereafter was involved in training other than 2 Mar 1945 when he flew on the Diversionary Raid "Sweepstake".
