Recommendation:
"On 9th July 1944 Private Darch was detailed with two other snipers to get certain information by recce patrol concerning a farm at Les Dauns. This information was required by 1800 hours and would have a vital bearing on a future operation. After acquiring the necessary information the patrol was attacked from a well dug in position with hand grenades and Private Darch was badly wounded in the face and stomach. The second man ordered the third to go back and get the stretcher bearers, but Private Darch, realising the urgency of his information, refused to allow it and, though seriously wounded, managed to return by his magnificent courage and will power in order to give his information to the commanding officer on time."
