Citation:
"Distinguished himself by courageous conduct against the enemy on November 7, 1948, while assigned as a gunner in a small assault group during an enemy action near Kampong Baroegboeg (West Java), against a superior-numbered and better-armed terrorist gang. Under heavy and well-aimed enemy fire to achieve greater firepower, he repeatedly and fearlessly exposed himself completely, intensely firing on the enemy and inflicting significant losses.
Furthermore, when the group subsequently advanced on the orders of his commander, he charged forward and was the first to reach a heavy enemy machine gun, after which he was killed shortly thereafter."
