"Distinguished himself by courageous action against the enemy by fulfilling his duties as chief of the engine room aboard her Majesty submarine "K 16" in an excellent manner in sinking a Japanese destroyer 30 miles North of Kuching on December 24, 1941 , which was part of the convoy of an enemy transport fleet. On December 25, 1941, Her Majesty's "K 16" went down by enemy action with the entire crew."
