"Private First Class Cecil E. Crook, 34838288, Infantry, United States Army, who distinguished himself by heroic achievement in action against the enemy on 18 March 1945 in the vicinity of Apperode(sic) Germany. During an attack against strongly defended hostile positions, Pfc. Crook's squad was subjected to intense enemy fire. With complete disregard for personal safety, Pfc. Crook moved from one position to another, delivering a withering hail of fire from his BAR at enemy targets. Pfc. Crook's courageous action, devotion to duty, and aggressive initiative were instrumental in the killing of fifteen Germans, wounding one, capturing twenty-four , and the neutralization of the hostile position. Entered Military Service from Georgia."
