Biography

Flight Engineer, Flight Sergeant Frank Stewart was part of the crew on June 11th, 1943 of the Handley Page Halifax JB785 (fellow crewmembers Pilot Officer George Racine Herbert, Sergeant Ernest Cassingham, Sergeant R. H. Makin, Flight Sergeant Francis Greenwood, Sergeant Ronald Boone and Pilot Officer Archibald Wallace ) on a sortie to Münster. On the way back after the mission, the aircraft was shot down at 02.40 hrs by Leutnant Werner Baake. The aircraft crashed at Giessenburg in the Netherlands. Pilot Officer Wallace and Sergeant Makin managed to jump to safety with their parachutes. They became POW. The other crewmembers were killed and buried in Crooswijk.
