Lt Miller was being transported on a mission aboard the submarine USS Seawolf to be dropped off on the east coast of Samara. The Seawolf was reportedly sunk on October 3, 1944, with all hands, by the USS Rowell (DE403) north of the Philippines. The Rowell had mistook the Seawolf for a Japanese sub. Miller entered the service from Illinois.
