Biography

Percy Parisian was of Roman Catholic faith and a member of the Peguis First Nation. Before enlisting, he had limited formal education, reaching Grade Five, and worked as a bushman. He was single at the time of his enlistment and listed his mother, Mrs. Christine Parisian, as his next of kin.

Percy enlisted in the Canadian Army on May 2, 1942, at the age of 18, joining the Royal Winnipeg Rifles with the regimental number H-100792. He served as a rifleman and was deployed overseas, where he participated in the Allied campaign in France.

Tragically, Percy Parisian was murdered by Waffen-SS soldiers on June 8, 1944, during the Normandy campaign in France. Initially buried in a field near Caen, his remains were later reinterred with honor at the Beny-sur-Mer Canadian Military Cemetery in France.

Following his death, Percy’s mother received his medals and a Memorial Cross in recognition of his service and sacrifice. His estate was administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Indian Affairs Branch, and his family was supported through war service gratuities and allowances.
