Info board 75 Years Liberation WWII Turnhout

In 2019 it was 75 years ago that Belgium was Liberated by the Allied forces.
In this context, Tourism Province of Antwerp organized various activities related to the Liberation in collaboration with Liberation Route Europe. Together with the participating cities and municipalities, a themed brochure with local stories supplemented with photos was made. Information boards were placed at 48 historical locations, each with a local theme.

Theme Turnhout: A long-awaited liberation

On September 24, 1944, the time had finally come for Turnhout, after four years of occupation, the city was liberated by British troops. The Germans withdrew behind the Dessel-Schoten canal, where fierce fighting will continue in the coming days, with several more casualties.
