Monument Ypenburg

The text on the right side of the small sculpture reads:

THE OPPOSITION

Ypenburg is defended by units
of the Dutch army and military
aviation. Although the Germans the airfield
initially managed to conquer, their action runs
yet a failure. Ypenburg is
unusable due to the many plane wrecks
and the Dutch armed forces know it
prevent the Germans from advancing to
The Hague. Thanks to successful counterattacks
back into the airport in the evening of 10 May
Dutch hands. Partly because of this success
have the royal family and the cabinet on
May 13, 1940 to divert to England.

Killed during the battle for Ypenburg
95 Dutch soldiers. Several
injured will die later.

NOT DEFEATED

Every year on May 10, a commemoration is organized at this Monument.
