Freedom Tree Bazel

It was with a heavy heart that the residents of Basel had to say goodbye to the Freedom Tree in March 2018. The lime tree had great emotional significance for many residents of the municipality.
The monumental lime tree was planted just after the end of World War I and was a landmark on Basel's church square for almost 100 years.
For several years, however, the lime tree had been attacked by an aggressive fungus.
Because of this it was necessary to fell him. A dozen associations, the culture council and the municipality made it a wonderful farewell and popular festival.
A piece of the tree trunk with a memorial plaque on it was placed next to the church.
