Memorial Resistance Barge De Bok

The Bok Monument in the Rottige Meente nature reserve is a lasting memorial to De Bokploeg. This resistance group was active around the Brandemeer during World War II. They hid people and weapons on their boat (a so-called bok).

The monument is the result of a school project by pupils at the De Lamer public primary school in Oldelamer. It serves as a lasting reminder of the resistance group.

Route: Start from the Oldelamerbrug bridge to Hogeweg in Oldelamer, then take the first left turn to Oude Maden. After a sharp right turn, a few hundred metres further on, there is an unpaved path on the left, closed off with a beam. There is a sign marked “Rottige Meente Brandemeer” from Staatsbosbeheer (the Dutch Forestry Commission), a signpost to the “De Bok” monument and an information panel. Walk up the path (depending on the time of year, it may be difficult to walk on due to high vegetation and inaccessible by bicycle). After 200 metres, you will see the monument on the left in the form of a scale model of “De Bok”.
