Crash Site Amstrong Whitworth Whitley V Z6586/ZA-F

Commemorative plate in memory of the five killed crew members of the bomber Whitley V Z6586/ZA-F which was shot down by a German night fighter on the night of 16 to 17 August 1941. The plane crashed near this location on the border between Martenslinde and Rijkhoven.

None of the five crew members survived the crash. They were buried on 21 August 1941 at the churchyard in Martenslinde. After the war, their remains were transferred to the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Heverlee.
