Memorial IWGC

Five young British soldiers lost their lives when their plane crashed at Martenslinde, after being attacked by a German night fighter on 17 August 1941.

P/O Donald W.H. Walker, observer
Sgt John Welsh, radio-operator/air gunner
Sgt Stewart F.B. Bott RCAF, radio-operator/air gunner
The original IWG-plaque, now Commonwealth War Graves Commission’ (CWGC). is located where the coffins of the five victims were placed before being buried in the cemetery of Martenslinde.
After the war, their remains were transferred to the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Heverlee.
