Commemorative Plate Crew Amstrong Whitworth Whitley V Z6586/ZA-F

Commemorative plate at the churchyard in Martenslinde where the crew of the bomber Whitley V Z6586/ZA-F was originally buried.
The airplane was shot down by a German night fighter on the night of 16 to 17 August 1941 at Martenslinde.

None of the five crew members survived the crash. They were buried on 21 August 1941 in the churchyard of Martenslinde..
After the war, their remains were transferred to the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Heverlee.
