War Chapel General Lemanlaan Assebroek

Assebroek has 21 chapels, five of which are said to have been war chapels, founded in the summer months of 1944.
Currently three have been preserved, one is in Generaal Lemanlaan.
People gathered weekly to pray the rosary to be spared the violence of war.
During the war year 1944, E.H. Jules Faes, pastor of St.Christopher's parish, promised to build a chapel here with the image of Our Lady of Sorrows in relief.

There is a small inscription on the sides:
"In dire need
promised on 7/16/44
under pastor Faes"

"After prosperous
liberation initiated
on 15-9-46
by Pastor Lozie"
