War Chapel Prins Karellaan Assebroek

Assebroek has 21 chapels, five of which are said to have been war chapels, founded in the summer months of 1944. Currently three have been preserved, one is located at Prins Karellaan 34.
People gathered weekly to pray the rosary to be spared the violence of war.
During the war year 1944, E.H. Jules Faes, pastor of St. Christopher's parish,
was given permission by the owner to build first a temporary chapel and later a permanent chapel on a piece of his land.
This chapel contains the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. It was dedicated on February 2, 1945.

There are two memorial stones in the chapel:

"Blessed memory to H.E.H.Faes
Designer of this community chapel"

"The people dedicated this
as thanks and token of love "
