Memorial Membach

On the Membach municipal elementary school there is a memorial plaque to the residents who were executed by the Germans on August 9th, 1914. It also commemorates the soldiers from Membach who died during the 1st World War.

Residents;

PALM François, 59 years
PALM Barthelemy, 20 years

Father and son were shot in a meadow by drunken or angry German soldiers on August 9th, 1914, without cause or trial. After the war the street next to this meadow was named; rue des Fusillés. Road of the executed.

Fallen on the field of honor;

PALM Jaqcues, age 20, soldier in the 11th lineregiment.

He went missing on October 26th, 1914 near Diksmuide, but later was recovered and buried at the Keiem Military Cemetery. His final resting place is grave 299.

MORAY Jean, age 24, soldier in the 12th line regiment.

He died October 2, 1915 at Oostkerke. He is buried on the Military Cemetery of Adinkerke. His final resting place is grave 1591.
