Dutch War Graves

Belfeld's Old Cemetery (no longer in use) contains a number of World War II war graves. This concerns a common grave of brothers Johannes Servaas (15) and Arnoldus Johannes Engelen (17) and Gerardus Jos Goossens (19). They died on 10 September 1942 when an unexploded phosphorus bomb exploded after contact. A memorial cross was placed at the site of this tragedy in 2012.

There are also the graves of five victims of a ferry disaster. The ferry between Reuver and Kessel was used by the German occupying forces to transport carts of grain despite the ferryman's advice against it. The ferry capsized and 13 people were killed. 7 of these were Belfelden citizens. Of the victims, 5 were buried in the old cemetery, 2 bodies were never recovered.
