Water Level Marking Flood Disaster May 17, 1943

After the Eder Dam was breached by Lancaster bombers on 17 May 1943, a flood caused death and destruction in the region. The village of Affoldern was almost completely wiped out and 13 people lost their lives.

A marker on a residential building in Affoldern commemorates the water level at the time of the flood.
