Evangelische Kirche Affoldern

After the Eder Dam was breached by Lancaster bombers on 17 May 1943, a flood caused death and destruction in the region. The village of Affoldern was almost completely wiped out and 13 people lost their lives.

The Evangelical Church in Affoldern was also struck by the flood and severely damaged. It was later restored. The church tower dates back to around 1300, originally constructed as a Gothic defense structure. Between 1754 and 1759, a new nave was added, enhancing the church’s architectural presence.
