Former Post Office Groesbeek

The post office, built in 1912, was in service until 1938. During the mobilization period of 1939-1940, Dutch border guard troops were stationed in this building. The building was used as a command post during this period.

In May 1940, the guard posts that were set up at border crossings beyond Groesbeek on the German border were connected by telephone to this command post on Dorpsstraat in Groesbeek. The command post in turn had a telephone connection with the command posts in Overasselt and Wijchen.

The aim was to warn the troops in the hinterland as quickly as possible when German troops would invade the Netherlands.
