In May 1940, this farm was established as a so-called "aid post," or a wounded shelter, for the defense line of the 46th Infantry Regiment. This unit was tasked with defending this sector of the Betuwe Line, which stretched from Ochten aan de Waal to "de Spees" farm.
Wounded soldiers could be transported from this aid post by stretcher or vehicle to a first aid station in a farmhouse opposite the ferry to Rhenen. Each first aid station was located approximately 2 kilometers behind each regiment's defense line.
