Stumbling Stone Polstraat 67A (voorheen Polstraat 29)

This brass plaque (Stumbling Stone), laid on 12 June 2025, commemorates:

* HERMAN LANGEVOORT (born 1902, arrested 29 December 1944, interned at Landgoed de Oxerhof, executed 8 March 1945 at Woeste Hoeve.

This Stolperstein lies here for a resistance fighter, murdered during the Second World War.

Herman Langevoort was a member of the KP Laren (Gld) and the Council of Resistance. After his arrest, he was executed on 28 May 1945, together with 116 others, at the Woeste Hoeve as retaliation for the attack on Hans Albin Rauter.

‘Stolpersteine’ is an art project in Europe by Gunter Demnig in memory of victims of National Socialism (Nazism).
Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the pavement in front of the homes of (mostly Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque bears the name of the victim, their date of birth and their fate. In this way, Gunter Demnig provides an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He quotes the Talmud: ‘A person is only forgotten when their name is forgotten.’
