Built in 1917-21 as the expensive headquarters of the Royal Holland Lloyd, later the Land Registry, and now a hotel. Gilded fencing earned it the nickname "gilded coffin." Breman's classical design was approved despite municipal objections. The First World War brought the shipping company substantial profits. Due to subsequent setbacks, the building, already under-occupied, was abandoned in 1923. The facade sculptures are by Jan Schultsz.
During World War II, the building was used by Luftgaukommando Holland.
The building extends to Martelaarsgracht 5.
