Originally built in 1914 as the Potgieter School, a seven-year public secondary school with classrooms, the site was once part of the former Roman Catholic church De Liefde and an old cemetery until the municipality purchased and redeveloped the site in 1912. The school became one of the first buildings on the new street frontage.
The school was used by the Wehrmacht-Bezirksverwaltung during the war.
