Memorial Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson

Sir Henry Wilson had served in the British Army since 1882 fighting in the Third Anglo-Burmese War, Second Boer War and First World War in which he was sub Chief of Staff to Sir John French. Later in the war he was an advisor to British Prime Minister David LLoyd George and was British Permanent Military Representative at the Treaty of Versailles in his position as Chief of the Imperial general Staff. In February 1922 he became a Member of Parliament for North Down in Northern Ireland and became outspoken on the 'Irish Problem'
He unveiled the Great Eastern Railway Memorial at 1pm on 22 June 1922 and returned to his house in Eaton Place where he was assassinated by two members of the Irish Republican Army at around 2.20pm.
