Dutch War Grave Bleskensgraaf

The grave of Gerrit de Jong from Alblasserdam lies somewhat hidden in the cemetery of Bleskensgraaf. Gerrit de Jong was seriously injured during the German bombing of Alblasserdam on 11 May 1940 and died of his injuries on the way to hospital. Doctor [bioid112145, Ingelse[/graveid] pronounced him dead and his body remained in the doctor's house that night. The next morning, bombs also fell on Bleskensgraaf, damaging the doctor's house. In the ensuing commotion, it was probably decided to bury him in Bleskensgraaf. Attempts to reburial him in his hometown of Alblasserdam after the war were unsuccessful.
