Belgian War Graves Linde

The cemetery in Linde contains the grave of MOONEN Frans, born in Bocholt on 7 February 1892, pastor in Linde since 1932. He was arrested by the Germans on 10 April 1942 and sentenced to three years in prison. He died in the prison of Sint-Gillis in Brussels on 24 August 1942.

There is the collective grave of Hubert SWENNEN (born Grote-Brogel), Albert MAS (born Linde), Alexander PAESEN (born Linde), Jaak SMEETS (born Grote-Brogel), Jan WINTERS (born Linde)
On 11 October 1944, Linde was shocked by a heavy explosion that killed five young men. An explosive left behind by the Germans proved fatal.
Inscription on the monument: “FALLEN AS B.N.B.’ERS IN THE SERVICE OF THE FATHERLAND ON 11 OCTOBER 1944”
