John Frost Poem

This is a poem in honour of Major General John Dutton Frost, a British officer who fought in World War II.
The text of the poem reads:
‘JOHN D. FROST FOUGHT / PERSISTENT AND BRAVE / FREEDOM HE SOUGHT / WHICH THEY TRIED TO SAVE / HIS NAME PROUDLY WROUGHT’.

It was placed there after the other monument was stolen.
The poem is one of 100 poems that can be found in the streets of Arnhem, as part of a project to commemorate the Battle of Arnhem.
The poem is placed on a wall near the John Frost Bridge, which is named after him.
The bridge was a crucial target during Operation Market Garden in 1944.
Major General Frost led a battalion of paratroopers who defended the north side of the bridge against German troops for four days.
