Stumbling Threshold Tram Stop Hollandse Schouwburg

This elongated brass plaque (Stolperschwelle or stumbling threshold), which was laid on 27-01-2025, commemorates:
the deportation of tens of thousands of Jews who were transported from there. The Stolperschwelle emphasises that the Amsterdam Municipal Tramway was used for the deportations and serves as a reminder of the complicity of the city and the GVB in the Nazi persecution.

Text:
‘In 1942 and 1943, tens of thousands of people were deported from here by municipal tram because they were Jewish.
Most of them were murdered in extermination camps.’
