House of German Art

The Haus der Deutschen Kunst was built from 1933 to 1937 on behalf of the National Socialists, in the neo-classical style of the Third Reich. It was designed by architect Paul Ludwig Troost. Until 1944, the museum hosted exhibitions of exclusively Nazi-approved art. Today the building is still an art museum (Haus der Kunst).

After the war, many Third Reich ornaments were removed, but some remain, such as hidden swastikas in the ceiling. There is also a memorial plaque on display with the names of the often-known Industrialists and Bankers who contributed to the foundation of the museum.
