During the first day of the Battle of Arnhem, many residents and staff members of the psychiatric institution were killed, mainly as a result of the bombing.
The first monument bears the names of the 51 patients who died during the bombing on 17 September 1944. The second monument bears the names of 31 victims. The container that forms part of the monument is the mass grave containing 51 people. Both monuments are located in the cemetery.
Staff and civilians from Wolfheze were buried in a different location, albeit in the same cemetery adjacent to the psychiatric institution.
