War Memorial Vries

The woman symbolises dejection on the one hand and growing resistance on the other. Dejection is represented by the drooping right arm. The growing resistance is expressed by the left hand raised and clenched into a fist.

On the sides of the column, the names of 19 inhabitants of the municipality of Vries who died during the Second World War are inscribed. The names of the 19 victims are:

Willem-Jacob van Enk, Willem Fonk, Luite Gerrits, Albertus Hahn, Gepko Hahn, Hendrik Hayema, Harm Hessels, Harm Huzing, Jan Kampstra, Jan Kiers, Willem Klasen, Jannes Lubberts, Dirk Willem Molhuyzen, Hendrik Stavast, Pieter Stavast, Teunis Scheepstra, Hein Talens, Melle de Vries and Teunis van Wijk.

Also on the monument there are2 names of victims of the Indonesian War of Independence: Lambert Hagting 12/01/49 died East Java and Anne Zoetebier 04/04/49 died South Sumatra.
