Jewish War Memorial Twijfelveld

The monument commemorates the Jewish victims from Assen, who died in Westerbork and other concentration camps in the period 1940-1945.

On the memorial are the names of the victims and the following text:

WE CONTINUE TO REMEMBER
THE DEAD IN WESTERBORK,
AND AWAY CLAIMING TO
THE CONCENTRATION CAMPS,
MORE THAN 500 SONS AND DAUGHTERS
OUR CONGREGATION.

IN THE YEARS
5700-5705
1945-1940

During the Second World War, more than 600 Jewish persons deceased in Westerbork . Until March 10, 1943 the remains of the deceased were buried in individual graves in the Jewish cemetery in Assen . Thus, there were 176 people their last resting place . After this date, the bodies of the dead were cremated .
