In May 1945, a war cemetery was established in the Volkspark Friedrichshain. Polish soldiers of the 1st Polish Army who fell in the Battle of Berlin were buried here. After the war, all burials were relocated at the Siekierki war cemetery.

A memorial dedicated to the Polish soldiers and German anti-fascists is standing here these days.
