Memorial Bombardment Looveer 17-09-1944 Huissen

The September 17 memorial commemorates the fatal combat on the day Operation Market Garden began the fighting around Arnhem. Allied planes accidentally killed runaway civilians in an air raid shelter. More than half of the 23 victims were children. Fireman Antoon Tonk also lost his life while performing for his loved ones. His grave is also a monument at the Huissen Stad Memorial Park. Many victims are buried in the mass grave that is also present there.

The WWII monument at 't Looveer is also sustainably lit when it is dark.
