Commonwealth War Cemetery Cement House

Cement House Cemetery contains 3592 (2425 unidentified) Commonwealth war graves from World War I and 22 (5 unidentified) from World War II.

The name of this cemetery dates back to the name given by the English to a fortified farm that was located next to this cemetery and where the Germans had a medical post (Hauptverbandplatz).

In fact, it seems that next to the medical post in the direction of Langemark the Germans also had a cemetery.

This cemetery was started end of August 1917 until April of next year.
After the end of the war, burials from smaller cemeteries were brought in here:
• ASQUILLIES CHURCHYARD, 11 British soldiers of November 1918
• AUDREGNIES CHURCHYARD, 9 British soldiers
• ELVERDINGHE CHURCHYARD, 9 British soldiers from 1914
• HENSIES CHURCHYARD, 5 soldiers
• HEULE CHURCHYARD, 6 British soldiers and 1 unknown airman
• MAISIERES COMMUNAL CEMETERY, 16 British soldiers of August 1914
• MEERENDRE CHURCHYARD, 4 R.A.F. officers
• OOSTNIEUWERKE CHURCHYARD, 11 soldiers
• PHEASANT TRENCH CEMETERY, LANGEMARCK, 14 soldaten
• PROVEN CHURCHYARD, 4 burials
• QUAREGNON COMMUNAL CEMETERY, graves of 8 British soldiers
• ROLLEGHEM CHURCHYARD, 5 soldiers
• THULIN NEW COMMUNAL CEMETERY, 10 burials.
• WINKEL ST. ELOI CHURCHYARD, 34 soldiers

Further extension of the number of burials came as a result of the fact that this cemetery is used for burials that are ongoing being discovered in the area.

The Commonwealth War Cemetery Cement House at Langemark contains the grave of a unknown French soldier who died in the First World War.

Originally there were 487 French soldiers buried here and all except for one were in 1922 relocated to another Cemetery.
