Stumbling Stones Heinrich-Barth-Straße 17

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Albert Rosenberg (born 1876, murdered in Riga)
Arnold Cohn (born 1927, murdered in Lodz)
Chana Cohn (born 1898, murdered in Lodz)
Sally Cohn (born 1894, murdered in Lodz on 13-3-1942)
Jettchen Israel (born 1884, murdered in Riga)
Frieda Mendel (born 1880, murdered in Auschwitz)
Bertha Rosenberg (born 1876, murdered in Riga)
Otto Zimak (born 1879, murdered in Riga on 22-2-1942)
Helen Zimak (born 1874, murdered in Riga)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
