Geniemuseum (Museum of Military Engineering) Vught

Experience the story of the Engineers: soldiers who use technology and courage to clear the way for peace and security

A unique military museum in the Netherlands
The Geniemuseum in Vught is the only museum in the Netherlands entirely dedicated to the Regiment of Engineers. Technology, personnel and mission come together in an impressive presentation of military craftsmanship and history.

Visitors learn how the Regiment of Engineers has contributed for generations to peace, security and reconstruction. The collection highlights their work and includes uniforms, scale models, vehicles and watercraft, complemented by photographs, films and personal equipment. Each object tells a story, from clearing obstacles and building bridges to preparing terrain and protecting troops.

The museum is located in Building K on the Van Brederode Barracks, a historic structure on grounds with a complex past. Building K once formed part of Kamp Vught, the only SS concentration camp in the Netherlands. Although this history is only briefly addressed in the exhibition, the location serves as a quiet reminder of the site's layered past and its transition from occupation to reconstruction.

The bunker as a time capsule
One of the museum’s most remarkable features is the former communications bunker of the Provincial Military Command North Brabant (PMC-NBr). Restored largely to its original state, the bunker offers a rare glimpse into the military infrastructure of the Cold War. It stands as a tangible reminder of a time when readiness and secrecy were essential.

Who is the museum for
The Geniemuseum provides an accessible overview of the Regiment of Engineers in action. Whether you are a veteran, a military technology enthusiast or simply curious about a lesser-known chapter of Dutch history, the museum captures the imagination of visitors of all ages.
