Memorials Hero Cities

The Monument to the Hero Cities consists of a row of 14 blocks of granite. On the first is the text "1941 Fallen for the Motherland 1945", and on the next 12 the names of the Hero Cities (places where the Soviet army fought the heaviest battles in World War II, and therefore received the honorary title Hero City): Leningrad , Kiev, Volgograd, Sevastopol, Odessa, Minsk, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Tula, Smolensk, Murmansk and Brest Fortress. Earth from these cities is buried under the stones. The last stone bears the inscription "Cities of Military Glory", and the names of 41 more cities where battles took place.
The monument stands outside the western wall of the Kremlin in the Alexander Garden, right next to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Both monuments were unveiled at the same time.
