British Memorial Battle of Spioenkop

This memorial commemorates the Brits who fell in the Battle of Spioenkop. It was erected by:

2nd Battalion The King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment
2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers
2nd Battalion Scottish Riflemen
2nd Battalion Middlesex Regiment
Natal Volunteer Ambulance Corps

The Battle of Spioenkop (Spion Kop) took place from 20 to 24 January 1900 between the Boer troops the South African Republic and the Orange Free State and British forces, during the campaign to relieve Ladysmith. The battle was won by the Boer. 243 Brits and 68 Boer were killed.
