Ärmelabzeichen für Gebirgsjäger

The "Ärmelabzeichen für Gebirgsjäger" was instituted on May 2nd 1939 for members of the German Mountain forces. The decoration depicts a Edelweiss flower as symbol of the moutains, surrounded by a entangled rope held by climbing iron and picknail. The decoration was sewn or woven on a dark green oval piece of cloth. It was worn on the upper right arm. Variations are known out of silver threat, felt, machine woven and cupperbrown version for Gebirgsjäger who operated in Africa.
