Biography

Richard Alan Grest reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He entered service on December 26th, 1941 with the Ninth Naval District, Great Lake Illinois as Qualified Naval Aviator. On March 19th, 1942 he became Qualified Carrier Pilot. He served as pilot with Commander North Pacific Force, Pilot with Composite Squadron 43 and as Commander Torpedo Squadron 16 (VT-16). During his career he operated from USS Liscome Bay (ACV-56), USS Lexington (CV-16), HMS Victorious (R38) and USS Wasp (CV-18). Beceause of his service he was, besides his personal decorations, entitled to the the ribbons for the Presidential Unit Citation, Naval Unit Citation and Third Fleet Citation.
