Biography

Brigadier Alfred Geoffrey Neville was a British military officer and colonial administrator. After joining the Royal Marines at 17, he served in both World Wars, including at Jutland and in intelligence roles. Postwar, he advised governors in Asia and held senior Marine commands. In 1950, he became Governor of the Bahamas until 1953. Neville was a polo enthusiast and friend of Lord Mountbatten.

Military career:
14 February 1920: Relinquished appointment as Adjutant.
14 January 1936: Appointed Military Assistant (G.S.O., 2nd Grade) to the Chief of the Imperial General Staff.
20 April 1938: Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
21 January 1939: Appointed G.S.O. 1st Grade, British Troops in China.
Second World War: Assistant Director of Naval Intelligence and Royal Marines Adviser to Combined Operations
16 July 1943: Retained on the Active List as Temporary Brigadier
1945-1950: Commandant of the Plymouth Division of the Marines, Superintendent of the Royal Naval School of Music, and the final Commanding Officer of the Chatham Division of the Marines
