Biography

Brigadier General George H. Beverley had a distinguished Air Force career spanning both World Wars. Beginning as a flying cadet in 1917, he became an instructor and later a key figure in developing U.S. air power. Between wars, he advanced through various commands, taught air doctrines, and took part in Billy Mitchell’s 1923 bombing experiments. During World War II, he held major commands in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy, contributing to Allied success. Postwar, he led Air Materiel Commands and served as military attaché in Brazil. Decorated by multiple nations, Beverley was a fluent Spanish speaker, accomplished polo player, and lifelong advocate of air power.

He was also awarded the Chinese Nekcklet of Pao Ting for his work in connection with the training of Chinese students at the San Antonio Air Material Command.
