Awarded for his actions during the last round of combat around Sevastopol in May 1944. He particularly distinguished himself on the night of the 08./09.05.1944, when the Soviets managed to cross over the Ssevernaya Bay. In response the regimental staff 123 and the Bataillonen II./121 and III./122 were alerted and personally deployed to attack the broken-through enemy behind the Nikolajewka position by Oberst Betz. In the process the III./122 managed to recapture the high ground near the Nikolajewka winery.
